In my recent blood work for my annual physical, my Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy test was measured at 17.3 or an insufficient level. Probably not enough sun during the winter; still, even with all the supplements I’ve been taking I managed to avert influenza and colds this season. Knock on wood!

I was very diligent in taking 5000 mg of D-3 everyday yet my levels were somewhat surprisingly low. Perhaps it was the vitamin manufacture because you can never know which Vitamin Company you can trust to provide the best product. I’ve switched over to GNC … perhaps that will help.

Anyway, I’m always interested in local Thousand Oaks authors and Doctor Zaidi recently published the Power of Vitamin D. I heard about him from a fellow Choir member who recommended reading his books.

It’s not like I’m new to the vitamin and I’ve been a big fan of Vitamin D ever since seeing Dr. John Cannell’s video and how he found a relationship between influenza and Vitamin D deficiency.

While Dr. Cannell has a good overview of what the vitamin can do for your, Dr. Zaidi’s book fills in all the information on how much you should be taking to supplement your diet and what levels should be found in your blood.

I enjoyed his level of writing where it wasn’t too technical and very easy to understand. His conclusions of why we are having an deficiency epidemic: modern lifestyle, sun phobia and obesity is somewhat obvious other than obesity, but he gives good examples of the cause of the problem.

Is this book for you? If Dr. Cannell’s video excites you about the power of vitamins, then you should pick it up and read it. I’m fairly certain that you or someone you know can benefit from the Power of Vitamin D.

We had to get a smog check for our ‘97 Toyota Avalon and purposely scheduled a late lunch so my wife and I could get her car tested around 2:00PM to avoid the “lunch crunch.” The Smog Check Center runs as a FIFO, a queue, that is, first come first serve.

Apparently, the center was very busy, so even at two, there was a 45 minute wait. Perhaps, like me, all their customers wait until the very last day to get their car tested.

We decided to walk up the street to The Book Bag and browse around for a few minutes. The Book Bag is an incredible used book store where the donated books have never been read or just read once! It’s not like one of those old musty used book stores, you may have visited before. I doubt you’ll pay more than $3 for a book!

But next door is a Thrift Store, where I imagine, the lesser quality, read twice books are handed over for donation. We stopped in there first and walked over the to the used books.

I found the next two books in the Left Behind series which I’m currently reading and of course, How to Stop Worrying… by Dale Carnegie. All in excellent condition and only one dollar each!

My plan was to browse through it while waiting for the test to complete. But when we got back to the Smog Center, the testing was complete and passed! I didn’t get to browse through the book until later that night, but so far it looks like Carnegie wrote a timeless masterpiece… More on this later…

Wouldn’t it be easier just to say “go down and out?”

But in my case, the number sequence is from Apollyon, by Tim Lahaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. The publisher really screwed up the printing on this one.

This, of course, implies that 32 pages are missing. What is strange about it is that page 182 segues perfect into page 215. So I’m not sure that anything was missing.

I’ll have to go back to Borders to see if other prints have the same problem. I’m curious to see what was in the missing chapter.

The Left Behind series is an excellent read especially if you like religious fiction.
