    Gin and Tonic

When combined, Gin and tonic makes a highball cocktail where right now I think I could use a stiff one. I never resort to numbness but it’s been too long a day to find that your Linux server crashed and doesn’t reboot and fsck fails.
For some reason the x-server died when starting up Evolution. [...]

I’m Loving my new Under Desk Keyboard Tray

Computers don’t suck after all!  I claim this after working comfortably for most of the day without much pain in right wrist due to my keyboard adjusted at a lower level after I installed a keyboard tray underneath my desk.
Decades of an unergonomic work environment really caused severe tenosynovitis in my wrists and right shoulder. [...]

Software Developer Becomes Ice Road Trucker

Watch tonight, 9 PM ET/PT, and you’ll see how I tossed in my career as a Software Developer and became one of the top stars in Ice Road Trucker.
    Joking …
Sometimes you have weird dreams like tossing in the towel and taking a life of a less stressful job like a Truck Driver making runs up [...]

Goodbye Quicken 2005 Hello Quicken 2008

Guess what? On May 1, 2008 your Quicken 2005 will become NFG when you can’t access your financial accounts anymore.  Now of course, if you enter all your records by hand, you don’t have to worry. Perfectly great software going down the drain.
Please, someone at Intuit tell me why?  The last time I had to [...]

    Sometimes I Just Hate Computers

Simply put, one of our computers crashed and I’m not too happy about it. Old Faithful, PLMS1 Linux file and email server, RIP. Now instead of enjoying my weekend, I’m going through the process of restoring email, Perforce and whaever else was lingering on that file server.
    I’ve been planning to retire PLMS1 [...]

    The Dragon Increases Your Productivity

Walt at 365 To Freedom wrote a very good review on Dragon NaturalSpeaking. I totally agree with him that it is a very productive tool that everyone should purchase. Walt, this is what I think of the product:

    02h — You’re Killing Me Today

I really didn’t want to go into work today but I keep getting a Check Condition (SCSI Status Code 02h). I should have hooked up the Fibre Channel Analyzer up last night, but with the “Great California Rain Storm” pounding down, I left the office to pick up my wife before the real [...]

    Life Span of a Mouse

Today was the first day I had to change the batteries in my Microsoft Natural Mouse. The two Energizer AA batteries that came with the mouse ran out of juice after about four months of use.
The mouse got a new life with some old 1800 mAh rechargeable batteries I found in the garage. (I [...]

I Killed My Windows 2003 Server … and Was Happy!

I managed to kill my Windows 2003 server the other day. It happened when I was upgrading it to Service Pack #2 and it ran out of disk space and couldn’t revert back to the previous version.
You would think that 1.7G is plenty of space to upgrade, but no….
The server was an old [...]

    The Natural is Very Natural

At the time of my last post, The Natural is not so Natural, I was having some difficultly getting use to the Microsoft Natural Mouse. But after a few days, I’m finding out that the pain in my wrist is going away!
I’m also holding unnatural mice at the same angle as the Natural Mouse. [...]
